It never fails, no matter how many times you go over your packing list something always gets left behind. It’s inevitable. I always seem to remember things I left behind when I’m sitting at the terminal waiting on my flight. The last thing anyone wants is to be unprepared for a long flight. And let’s be honest, how many times can you actually flip through the Sky Mall magazine? I’ve put together a basic list of carry-on bag essentials to keep handy next time you’re packing for a trip. Hopefully it is as useful for you as it is for me!
Yes I know, it should go without saying to bring your wallet. But hey, even the most seasoned travelers forget things from time to time. You should always double check that you have your ID along with any debit/credit cards you need and cash. For trips out of the country you’ll need your passport. Make sure it is stored somewhere easily accessible for you but out of site to others.
Wet Ones and hand sanitizer pretty much go hand in hand. You come into contact with and touch so many things while traveling. No one wants to get sick while on vacation, so having something to sanitize with is essential. Kleenex always come in handy along with Shout wipes, you never know when you’re going to need them so it’s always good to have these little things just in case. Flying, especially on longer flights can leave you feeling tired and kinda of just ugh. Travel sized deodorant can be a lifesaver. I also like to reapply my mascara and chapstick along the way to freshen up my face.
Being prepared with things to do on your flight is a must. Headphones are always the first things I grab along with my phone of course. I make sure I’ve got an updated playlist on my phone and I’m good to go. Reading material is always a good idea. A magazine and my kindle are usually just enough. The battery on a kindle seems to last forever, but always remember to pack the chargers for all of your electronics. I always pack my cameras in my carry-on, I like having them within reach so I know nothing can happen to them as opposed to if they were in my checked bag.
Yes yes yes. Is anybody else really behind like me and had no idea you could bring your own snacks on the plane? There are definitely rules as to what you can and can’t bring, but granola bars, snack packs, pretzels, etc are all fair game. Don’t forget to toss a pack of gum in your bag, airplanes can be close quarters so it’s best to be prepared.
My sleep mask is pretty high on my packing list when I’m getting ready for a trip. Anyone who knows me, knows I love a good nap. Anytime, anywhere. So having the sleep mask makes it that much easier to catch a snooze on flights. A scarf is also great to have if you tend to get cold easily. They are lightweight and don’t take up much space so they can be easily packed in your carry-on.
