Petit Piquant is a hidden little gem on North Howard Avenue here in Tampa. A small bakery that is filled with some of the most delicious pastries, coffees/teas and lunch options in the area. The flavors and textures of their pastries make you feel as if you’re sitting at a tiny corner cafe somewhere in Europe. They put so much care into what they make and don’t cut corners when it comes to making their pastries.
I was so excited to try the newest pastry addition to Piquant. I love everything they come up with and all of their pastries are so good you guys. I’m a huge fan of their Nutella croissant donut, the “cronut”. I had not had Kouign-Amann before so I was eager to see what it was all about. I started with the savory braised short rib and was really impressed. Chef Castro and Chef Rosana put so much thought into putting a spin on this new pastry and really making it something that is truly so delicious.
Up next was the strawberry Kouign-Amann. I was worried it would be a little too sweet for me but it was the perfect amount of sweetness and was just what I needed to balance out the braised short rib Kouign-Amann I had just had. Both pastries were perfectly baked and had me wanting another. Wish granted, Chef Castro sent me home with the Guava Kouign-Amann which was equally as delicious as the other two. I’m eager to try all of the other flavors and find which one I like best.
These delicious, buttery pastries come from the coastal region of Brittany, in the northwest corner of France. A mix between a croissant and brioche, the Kouign-Amann is equal parts crispy and flakey, with flavorful buttery layers.
Piquant will be making the traditional sweet Kouign-Amann with flavors such as, Lemon, Guava, Strawberry, Cinnamon Sugar, Passion Fruit and Raspberry. And they’ll also be putting their own unique spin on the Kouign-Amann by making delicious, savory flavors like Roasted Tomato & Goat Cheese, Braised Short Rib and Lox .
You can find Petit Piquant at 1704 North Howard Avenue in Tampa and now you can enjoy them on the go as well at Tampa International Airport in Illy Coffee & Bay Coffee and Tea Company.
